"The Indiana Pacers, looking to halt a string of embarrassing incidents involving players, have hired Sam Perkins to act as a mentor.

Perkins, who played on the Pacers squad that reached the 2000 NBA Finals, was hired as vice president for player relations.

"I'm aware of the things that went on," Perkins said Monday, according to The Indianapolis Star. "True, it's not all their faults. There's a lot reasons for some of the stuff, but there's no excuse for it. … You just have to hopefully put it in the past and use that stuff as an example.

"I want to face the challenges in front of me and help the players mature in life."

Team president Larry Bird, who played against and coached Perkins in the NBA, said he has wanted to hire Perkins for some time, according to The Star. The team believes Perkins will be able to relate to players because he spent 15 years in the NBA."

Player Coach?

Multiple sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that Terry Porter is the new coach of the Phoenix Suns.
Suns general manager Steve Kerr called Porter on Saturday morning to offer him the job, and Porter accepted.
Porter is a former head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and was an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons this season.
Porter was interviewed twice, most recently on Monday.
The Suns had been searching for a head coach since Mike D'Antoni resigned to lead the New York Knicks. Other candidates included Houston Rockets assistant Elston Turner and former NBA player and TV analyst Mark Jackson.
Porter was Flip Saunders' lead assistant in Detroit the past two seasons. Porter led the Bucks from 2003 to 2005, helping them earn a spot in the 2004 playoffs.
His coaching career started as a Sacramento Kings assistant in 2002.

You may hear or read somewhere that Jose Gonzalez sounds like Jack Johnson. That is the worst comparison possible. Just because they both play an acoustic guitar and sing songs that get put on cd's and distributed does not make them similar. The closest comparison I would make when it comes to Jose Gonzalez would be Johnny Cash.
Jose Gonzalez is gangster. He is a badass. You can hear it at the beginning of songs as he takes hold of his guitar. Jose Gonzalez is a man. He makes good music. Check it out.
